Robson Cezar was born in the city of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. After years living and working all over South America, he made his way to New York to study art in the 1990s and attended the School of Visual Arts and the Art Students’ League in Manhattan. After 9/11 he moved to the UK, earning a first class degree in Fine Art from the University of Plymouth and the Natalie Sitar Award for outstanding achievement. Following in the footsteps of Brazilian national heroes Helio Oiticica and Caetano Veloso, he eventually settled in London’s East End, and having completed a postgraduate degree at Chelsea College of Art in 2008, was appointed to a Sculpture Fellowship at the institute in 2009.
